REVIEWS

Kutsukake Tokijiro written by Shin Hasegawa (1884-1963) in 1928 is the one of well-known plays of Taishu Engeki theatre(the mass popular theatre.) The project, based upon a 19th century Japanese yakuza/lone gambler story will draw on influences as diverse as the Spaghetti Western, 21st century Japanese pop culture animation and Japanese folk songs as well as the dance movements of Noh, Kabuki and contemporary dance to create J-pop Theatre.
We are proud of introducing a world premiere bilingual play "Kutsukake Tokijiro" to New York.

Jun Kim will create and direct "one of a kind" theatre and music by Ryo Yoshimata, an acclaimed Japanese composer.

Kutsukake Tokijiro's story expresses Taishu Engeki's three major themes
"obligation and love", "justice" and "loyalty and filial piety",
ideas deeply rooted in the Japanese populace at the time.
The play explores traditional ethics and humanism in Edo period Japan.
